Why does Intuitive Souls Therapy offer yoga classes and workshops in Columbus, Ohio?
Yoga naturally complements and supports physical, emotional, and spiritual health and well-being. Of course there are the physical benefits like increasing flexibility, toning/strengthening muscles, and lengthening fascia/connective tissue. Beyond movement and stretching, the practice of yoga encourages mindfulness, breath awareness, and a deeper connection to oneself, among other holistic benefits. Yoga offers ways to release stuck energy and emotions, to tap into the power of the mind-body connection, and to shift our moods and challenge our mindsets. Inspired by yoga's impact on her own life, Lisa Franklin of Intuitive Souls Therapy completed yoga teacher training in 2021 so that she could share these benefits with others. She has taught in yoga studios, corporate settings, employee wellness events, private/small group classes, donation-based community offerings, freelance workshops, and self-created therapeutic series classes. Lisa truly loves seeing the growth and impact that yoga has on students’ lives. Her yoga for mental health series classes bring emphasis to how and why yogic practices can support overall wellbeing, by integrating education about mental health topics with embodied practices and techniques for improving daily life. These classes are not a direct replacement for therapy, but a complement to any healing/wellness journey. Attendees do not need to be therapy clients to participate in yoga classes/workshops in Columbus, Ohio.
What is Trauma-Informed Yoga?
To be “trauma-informed” means to be educated and aware of how trauma can impact people and considerations to keep in mind to prevent further re-traumatization/triggering of trauma responses whenever possible. Trauma-informed yoga is a compassionate and mindful approach to yoga that prioritizes safety, autonomy, and the mind-body connection for individuals who may have experienced trauma. By using non-judgmental, invitational language and offering choices throughout the practice, it empowers participants to reconnect with their bodies at their own pace without pressure or expectations. This approach emphasizes nervous system regulation through gentle movement, breathwork, and grounding techniques, helping to reduce anxiety and stress and teach practical strategies that can be used in everyday life. In a perfect world, every yoga class and instructor should be trauma-informed, but that isn’t always the case. Lisa Franklin of Intuitive Souls Therapy takes the guess work out of finding a class/instructor that is trauma-informed in Columbus, Ohio by labeling and teaching all of her classes this way. You can expect Lisa to have these considerations in mind and to hold healing intentions in her heart in all of her classes and offerings.
