The No Surprises Act is a federal law which provides you with the right to a good faith estimate of the cost of services at my practice. However, Ohio licensing board rules require me to provide you with the actual cost of my charges in a written informed consent form to which you must agree prior to providing services. That will be available to you prior to you being seen for services and prior to any billing. In most cases it is impossible to estimate how many sessions you will need, and that will not be determined until your concerns are evaluated and will also vary based on the progress that you make, which depends in part on your efforts with the process. You will be free to discontinue services at any time or the services may otherwise be terminated in accordance with the informed consent form language. Although the No Surprises Law says that you may initiate a dispute process if the actual charges are substantially in excess of the Good Faith Estimated charges, i.e. if you are charged $400 more than the estimated cost for a session or for the total estimate provided, that is unlikely to happen and would be a violation of licensing board rules, since you will be agreeing up front to actual charges per session prior to being seen. Dispute information is available upon request, however any changes to my fees will require a change in the informed consent form fees, which you must agree to prior to having them go into effect, otherwise the fees will remain in effect for 12 months.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does virtual therapy/counseling work?
Virtual therapy allows you the convenience and comfort of having sessions from home, the office, your car, or anywhere you have a secure internet connection and privacy in Ohio, without having to factor in commute times! When you schedule a session with me, I will send you a google meets invite with a secure link to our video call. This platform is HIPAA compliant for your privacy. At the time of your appointment you can click the link from your email or google calendar using a smartphone, tablet, or computer. **Note that legally you must be physically in the state of Ohio at the time of our appointments due to licensing requirements.
Does Intuitive Souls Therapy bill insurance?
Intuitive Souls Therapy does not directly bill insurance and is considered an out of network or private pay provider. If your insurance plan has "out of network mental health benefits" you may be able to get reimbursed for some or all of my fee by your insurance company after sessions.
I've tried other talk therapy approaches before, how is this different?
At Intuitive Souls Therapy, my approach goes beyond talking and thought analysis. Sometimes logic and reason simply are not enough to really feel the change and healing you're seeking. My approach is holistic, incorporating techniques that empower you to tap into the innate wisdom of the mind-body-spirit connection and embody your goals more deeply. Approaches like EMDR, IFS, polyvagal theory, and other somatic techniques all recognize that listening to the body is important for profound and lasting healing. These modalities are where science (neuroscience and understanding of the nervous system) meet mindfulness and intuition. I am also open to integrating spiritual and energetic healing into your therapy based on your needs and beliefs.
Do I have to have a mental health diagnosis to see you?
One of the benefits of seeing a private pay therapist is that you don't have to receive a diagnosis unless it's in some way helpful to you. If you are planning to seek reimbursement from an insurance company for our sessions, then the insurance company will need a diagnosis to bill for those sessions.
Why should I see a private pay therapist? Are there any benefits to doing so?
Seeing a private pay therapist may be more expensive upfront, but there are empowering benefits to consider: 1. Increased privacy- Your information and story are completely confidential and sacred between you and your private pay therapist. Your information doesn’t have to be shared with a billing specialist or a number of people within an insurance company. You get the control in who you share your story with. 2. Greater flexibility in how you receive care- Insurance companies often have restrictions on what they will cover, which can range from length/frequency of session to types of therapy and issues they deem worthy of being covered. With a private pay therapist your therapy can be tailored to your needs, NOT what a stranger without any medical/psychology degree approves. If a longer session or checking in more often would be helpful, if a non-traditional approach is what you’re seeking, if you want support even when you might not meet textbook “medical necessity” criteria, and/or you value your intuitive sense of what you need more than insurance policies, private pay therapy may be good for you. 3. Labels are not needed to get quality care- Insurance companies require a diagnosis be made the first session and use that label to make decisions for you/about your coverage. In private pay therapy, you don’t have to have a diagnosis unless it is in some way helpful for you. This means we can look at your concerns and goals in a more holistic way, as interconnected parts of your journey rather than isolated problems to be fixed. 4. Straight-forward, transparent pricing- With a private pay therapist you will know upfront what each session will cost you. No more guessing, estimating, or surprises about what exactly is covered, within a deductible, or co-pays vs co-insurance rates. 5. The focus is on you- Your private pay therapist is freed up to put their energy into helping you, responding to emails, and researching topics/techniques related to your needs. Insurance companies do not make it easy, and working with them can take up a lot of unnecessary time- from long hold times on the phone with them, difficult to reach customer service lines, having to defend why clients need care or the amount of care they do, requests for records, submitting claims and fighting denials, etc. Your therapist would much rather spend this time focusing on you and your growth. Plus there’s the added benefit, when you support a private pay therapist’s business- you are helping therapists fight back against these systems that negatively impact our field and insurance consumers alike.
What if I can't currently afford your rates?
Intuitive Souls Therapy values accessibility of healthcare. I keep a few spots on my caseload for adjusted/reduced rates for this purpose. If you feel that we would be a good fit but that price would be a barrier, please reach out to see if I have availability for adjusted/reduced rate sessions. You can do so via email or by filling in my New Client Inquiry form. Note that at times there may be a wait list for this offering.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel an appointment with Intuitive Souls Therapy and give at least 24 hours notice, there is no charge. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the time of the appointment may be charged a $40 fee.
